Hand dyed, hand knit for my feet

Here's the Louet Gems I dyed up and am knitting into another pair of Twin Rib socks.

My Twin Rib Sock Pattern

It's typed up and here it is:

My Standard Sock Pattern for DPN’s – general notes, sock knitting experience required
This sock fits a 8 3/4" foot, 8" ankle aka my foot.

Fingering size yarn,
Size 1 (2.25mm) needles
Approximately 320 yds.

Using Judy’s Magic O Cast On
http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEspring06/FEATmagiccaston.html , cast on 14 stitches each needle (28 stitches total).
Increase 4 stitches (2 each side) every other row per directions until there are 64 stitches total. At some point, either the last toe row or the first pattern row, I m1 to get 33 stitches for the top of the foot.

Twin Rib Pattern– over 33 stitches
Row 1: (p3, k3)repeat until last 3 stitches, p3
Row 2: (p1, k1) repeat until 1 stitch remains, p1
Repeat rows 1 & 2 until sock is 6 inches long.

Heel – French/Round Heel
On half of stitches (non patterned half):
Row 1: (sl1, k1) repeat to end of row
Row 2: sl1, p to end of row
Continue for 34 rows total, or 17 stitches can be picked up each side.

Heel Turn:
Row 1: k18, ssk, k1, turn
Row 2: sl1, p7, p2tog, p1, turn
Row 3: sl1, k8, ssk, k1, turn
Row 4: sl1, p9, p2tog, p1, turn
Continue until all heel stitches are worked, ending with a knit row.

Pick up and knit 18 stitches down one side of the heel flap.
Pick up bar between heel flap and top of foot and knit through the back loop.
Knit in pattern across top of foot (instep).
Pick up bar between top of foot (instep) and heel flap and knit through the back loop.
Pick up and knit 18 stitches on remaining side of the heel flap.

Rearrange needles so heel stitches are distributed evenly on 2 needles, 4 needles total, with the beginning of rows starting in the middle of the heel.

Heel Gusset (decreases):
Row 1: Needle 1: Work to 3 stitches from end, k2tog, k1
Needles 2 & 3: work in pattern
Needle 4: k1 , ssk, k to end of needle
Row 2: Needle 1: knit all stitches
Needles 2 & 3: work in pattern
Needle 4: knit all stitches

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until there are 14 stitches on needles 1 & 4 (28 stitches total for heel). Continue to knit front of leg in twin rib pattern, and knit back of leg with k3, p3 rib until leg of sock is the desired length (5-6" for me). NOTE: On first leg row, decrease 1 stitch for 27 heel stitches total so that the k3, p3 pattern fits exactly.

Stretch Bind Off – from Cool Socks, Warm Feet by Lucy Neatby which she calls “Modified Conventional bind off”.

Weave in the ends, make another sock and you’re done!

Socktober Update

After finishing the first sock in a new record for me....4 days, I am more slowly working on sock 2. The yarn is superwash merino, hand dyed, purchased on ebay. The pattern is my own with the twin rib stitch pattern from Sensational Socks.
I was slowed down in my knitting by Art & Soul and a friend's baby shower, but am back to a more normal schedule. A highlight of A&S was meeting Traci Bunkers and taking a class from her. Even though it wasn't at all fiber related, I had asked her earlier if I could bring my spindle & single spun yarn and she graciously showed me how to andean ply! I can ply!! I also took classes from Thomas Mann and Carla Sonheim. It seems quite an eclectic mix of classes. I enjoyed them all and am looking forward to next year's already.

Socktoberfest!

It's time for Socktoberfest. I'm casting on using some yarn I got on ebay. I plan to finish these and then make a pair of socks using some Jaegger extrafine merino I got a while back. Two pair in one month? That's my goal.
